Mullein and Chamisa

Pastel on Sanded Paper

Painted at TwoMile Reservoir in Santa Fe, I was especially struck by this stand of Mullein, looking like soldiers along the pathway. Mullein is commonly known as 'hiker's toilet paper' due to their soft, fuzzy leaves. I can say I don't recommend it as such! Best to simply admire their yellow blossoms held high above their foliage.
